Hilary Boucher

Hilary BoucherHilary Boucher

When I was four I started dancing ballet, flamenco and Irish country-dance in my hometown Huntsville, ON. I danced competitively for 10 years and trained in the Cecchetti method. I began experimenting creatively with dance at a young age and at 13, I was the youngest choreographer to enter a piece in the Muskoka Ballet Gala’s choreographer’s ball, which hosts schools from all over the province. I received an honorable mention. At the age of 14 I had completed my grades 1-6 Cecchetti exams with the National Ballet of Canada, and moved away from home to Belleville, ON upon being accepted to an arts-based high school, and The Quinte Ballet School of Canada (one of four major ballet schools in the country). While studying at both schools, I had the opportunity to tour Ontario and train with teachers such as Brian and David Scott, Joanne Nisbet, Annette av Paul, Frank Augustyn, Glenn Gilmour, and Karen Kain, as well as completing my intermediate and Advanced one Cecchetti exams. I continued my studies in Flamenco and was also introduced to modern dance, and got my first taste of acting. I graduated both schools when I was 18 and moved to Toronto, ON to expand my studies in contemporary/modern and jazz while training with choreographers/dancers such as Blake McGrath, Luther Brown, Danny Davalos, Leon Blackwood, and Danny Lawn. I continue to train all over Toronto and try to expose myself to as many dance forms as possible. My goal as a dancer/artist is to be versatile. Being technically trained and able to “perform” in every dance style is what separates good dancers from the greats!

Meghann is entering her fourth year at York University for Dance and Dance Science. She is a member of the York Dance Ensemble, and has enjoyed performing modern and contemporary works with well-known choreographers including Susan Cash, Debra Brown and Meagan O’Shea. Meghann also had the opportunity to work with MFA students Tracey Norman and Angela Blumberg.

Meghann is a new member of Lindsay Ritter Productions, where she is rediscovering her love for jazz. She is looking forward to being a part of the company, where she has been given the opportunity to work with several other talented dancers.

Working with different choreographers and performing in a variety of styles worldwide is Meghann’s long held dream. In addition to being on stage, she hopes to one day integrate her love for dance with her interests in anatomy and kinesiology.

BEGINNER Commercial Jazz - Natasha shares some useful INFO!!

May 7, 2010

The beautiful and talented Natasha Taylor shares some useful info about BEGINNER COMMERCIAL JAZZ:

Have you ever watched So You Think You Can Dance and thought to yourself, “man, how do they do that!?”

It’s never too late to start from the beginning. In the Beginner Jazz class, we take it back to basics. This class is suitable for absolute beginners as well as intermediate dancers. If you are a true beginner, the class will provide you with the fundamentals and tools you need to begin your introduction into the dance world. If you are already an established dancer, the class can help you enhance your existing skill set. The class allows you to get to know your body in a whole new way. It will enable you to establish (or re-establish) a physical and mental connection with your body through a step-by-step breakdown of every element in each movement.

The class is what you make of it. It will give you all the tools you need to meet any of your individual goals. If you’ve always wanted to try to learn dance, this is a great place to start; if you’re looking for a different way to exercise, this class can leave you feeling like you’ve just had a satisfying workout. Or, if you’re an aspiring dancer with goals in mind, this class can help you improve your overall flexibility, technique and coordination. At the very least, you walk out of every class fully stretched and with some new moves to try at home.

Every class starts with a thorough warm up, and then we lead into technique building with step-by-step instruction. In the last half of the class, you learn and perform a 20-30 second routine to a well-known track. In Beginner Jazz, everyone gets the chance to be a back up dancer for Janet Jackson!

Beginner Jazz offers a non-intimidating and extremely positive environment for anybody who just feels like busting a move!

I challenge you to learn something new and fun and discover the love of dance.

And remember, practice makes perfect!
