LR Dance Classes - What makes us DIFFERENT from the rest?!

October 28, 2010

Hello Dancers and Friends!

I got a phone call the other day from someone who was interested in taking dance classes. She had never danced before and asked me “What makes LR Dance Classes different from the rest??”

For me this answer is simple: Our classes are not only a great workout, fun and energetic, positive and encouraging atmosphere…the list goes on!

There is one HUGE reason why we differ from the rest of the open classes in Toronto….our amazing teaching staff is committed to TEACHING! You can always guarantee that when you come to class the same teacher is ALWAYS present. This is very important in a learning environment! In order to grow and progress in a certain style, CONSISTENCY is key!

Our teachers also love to perform but they never let that interfere with their commitment to TEACHING!

So here’s a shout out to the lovely Natasha Taylor, Marta Sobiesiak and ME for always SHOWING UP! :-)

See you in class!!

Brendan Mullan

Brendan started dancing at the age of 5 years old. His passion for dance sparked him to train in many genres such as jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, hip hop, acro, tumbling, musical theatre and he has also developed partnering skills. These skills allowed him to compete at competitions in Canada and the U.S. He was a very successful competitive dancer and has won countless groups and solo/duet/trio awards. He has studied the Vaganova, RAD, BATD, ISTD, and ADAPT syllabus.

Brendan attended O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute where he was accepted into the Performing Arts Program for music, vocal, drama, and dance. This program offered him the opportunity to further develop his acting and singing skills. He participated in the choir and musical productions and was a member of the dance team.

In order to build upon his talents and become the next triple threat performer he has taken acting, vocal and musical theatre training at Randolph Academy, Second City, Act One School of Drama, and several music studios and private vocal instructors over the past 12 years. He is an experienced teacher and choreographer in lyrical, jazz, ballet, and tap.

He has trained with several dance organizations such as L’Ambiance Dance Centre, Step With Style Dance Productions, Cynthia’s Creative Dance Arts, OIP Dance Centre, Theatre Dance Academy and Hoofers Performing Arts. He attends many workshops and drop-in classes in the GTA to enhance his talents and learn from some of the finest teachers and choreographers such as Blake McGrath, Mia Michaels, Shane Sparks, Luther Brown, Tre Armstrong, Brian Friedman, Shawn Byfield, Faye Rauw, Linda Garneau, Kevin Puhr, Robert Glumbek, Danny Davalos, Sean Cheeseman, just to name a few.

Brendan attended the prestigious Alvin Ailey certificate program in Manhattan, New York. This training experience helped him hone his technique and performance skills to become a more versatile dancer and performer.

He has taught and choreographed for dance studios, theatre camps, schools, workshops, and most recently has trained and instructed at L’Ambiance Dance Centre in Ballroom and Latin (waltz, Viennese waltz, tango, samba, rumba, jive, cha cha, fox trot, quick step, salsa, hustle, swing). He attained the bronze level and is currently working towards completing the silver level.

He has entertained audiences at several dance productions, recitals, and musicals. Some of his theatrical and dance credits include the lead role (Jack Sparrow) in Pirates of the Caribbean as an actor/dancer for Step With Style Dance Productions, singer/dancer at Broadway Gold for Brampton Theatre, actor/singer/dancer in Fame for Randolph Academy.

Brendan’s goal is to work with many different choreographers and perform on stage for musicals and dance performances to audiences worldwide.

He is new to the professional dance world and is currently a company member with Nexx Level Dance Company. He is thrilled to be a new member of Lindsay Ritter’s LR Production team. He can’t wait to work with this talented group of dancers.

A lovely comment from one of our BEGINNER STUDENTS!

October 5, 2010

It always warms my heart when students enjoy our classes and really feel comfortable dancing in a positive environment.  This is something the entire faculty at LR Dance strives to achieve and it’s wonderful when students FEEL what we FEEL TOO!!

 Hey Lindsay,

I want to say thank you for giving those of us with no dance training an opportunity to express ourselves and learn more about dance. Your instructors are the absolute best - fun, encouraging, patient and talented. Every class is challenging and a pleasure, and the community you’ve created has both introduced us to and made it easy to share the joy of dance. Thank you!
