ABOUT JOJO:
Jojo Zolina, born with a talent unmatched to many of the greatest performers in the industry, has trail-blazed a style and standard that has filtered itself into today’s mainstream dance world. With
ease and incredible force, he has reinvented a technique that has quickly become coveted by artists such as Madonna, La Roux, Michael Buble, Lady Sovereign and travelled representing
his craft to countries as far as Russia. His fluid, expressive movements captured audiences at Paris Fashion Week and is followed by thousands on many social media websites, most impressively - You-Tube.

Born in the Philippines and raised by a single-mother who encouraged creativity and love for the arts, Jojo discovered his passion for dancing at a very young age. Moving to Victoria, BC to live with his father at the age of twelve after his mothers unexpected passing; Jojo used dance as an outlet to help remedy the confusion associated with his loss. Focusing on the innate drive and what his mother had ultimately instilled in him, it was the beginning of true star. Yet this Vancouverite remains refreshingly humble.

Apart from having an impressive list of commercial, television, and film credits under his belt; with a flare for incorporating cheeky humor into each performance Jojo is a dance alchemist.
Boldly melding elements of ethnic folk dance, hip hop, funk styles, vogueing, waacking, house, reggaeton, dancehall, contemporary, and salsa. From Martha Carter and Jennifer Mascall Modern Dance Companies to hip hop dance pioneers Caleaf Sellers, Poppin’ Pete, Tyrone Proctor, Suga Pop and Ken Swift, he has studied under and worked with some of the most renowned names in the business.

In 2002, Jojo co-founded Over the Influence, Vancouver’s hottest hip hop dance crew. They are known for their witty storytelling choreography that challenges traditional hip hop boundaries and stereotypes. They have performed and hosted urban dance
workshops across Canada, and represented Canada in the World Hip Hop Championships in Los Angeles, Unrated 3 in Seattle, and the San Francisco Hip Hop Dance Fest. In 2006, he founded the ultra sassy vogueing and waacking dance crew, House of La Douche and Haute Waacouture in 2010 . The first dance crew of its kind in Vancouver, the House of La Douche and Haute Waacouture pays homage to the gay community’s 1970’s underground vogueing and waacking movement. Jojo formed the group after an inspiring trip to New York, where some of the movement’s originators welcomed him with open arms. He is successfully sparking renewed interest in this movement in Vancouver—and now here in Toronto. The past four months have been inspiring for Jojo. His initiative is to bring this eclectic style and force to an area where it can do nothing but flourish.

Jessica Tomasone

Receiving her BFA in Performance Arts Dance from Ryerson University, Jessica has been training and performing in many styles of dance since the age of 4. She has worked and trained with well-known professionals in the industry such as Nadia Potts, Karen Duplisea, Vikky St. Denis (RU), Kenny Pearl (TDT), Robert Glumbeck, D.A Hoskins, Linda Garneau, and Vlad Novitski to name a few.  Shortly after getting her degree, Jessica trained and performed with Toronto’s Afro/Brazilian and samba based dance company, The Dance Migration, lead by Adrianna Yanuziello.  Getting back to her jazz and contemporary roots, she recently ended last season’s shows held at the Winchester Theatre, T.O, dancing and training with Jasmyn Fyffe Dance.  Jessica is very excited to be part of the “elite 40” as a dancer and artistic performer for LR Productions 2012-2013.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
Specially selected students will have the unique advantage of taking part in exciting classes with industry leading teachers and choreographers. Dancers will train in different styles for 10 week sessions. They will also have the chance to sit down with each teacher, choreographer, educator for a one on one review of their past 10 weeks. Helpful motivation and criticism will be given furthering each dancers individual progression. Not only do the dancers train physically, but they also train mentally in our educational classes. The most useful and current information will be given out through research project, homework, and guest lectures focusing on dance as a business!
Students will finish the year with a self run show, starting with marketing, advertising, all the way through the aspects of a show to dancing in it themselves. Important figures of the dance community are there every year and will be watching to see their success!

Toronto Scholarship Program highly recommends that each prospective student attend at least one of the many LR Dance classes during the summer. The Artistic Director prefers to have a hands on approach to really get a feel for each student’s ability. This has been proven to help in the “decision making” process during the audition in the dancers favor.

At the audition participants will be asked to perform a series of techniques across the floor, a centre combination, and free style demo in their strongest form of dance. Dancers will be chosen to participate in the 2012/2013 Scholarship Company while displaying a will to work hard and positive attitude. Selected students will participate in a interview after the audition commences to make sure the student is the right fit for our program. Acceptance to the program will be done via telephone followed up with an email including an official letter of acceptance.
